Fall is starting soon – beginning on September 22nd and ending on December 21st – and we have many fun times to look forward to (even during this COVID pandemic)! Back-to-school (on- and offline), family gatherings, Veterans Day parades & memorials, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and more! In most places, fall weather brings colorful leaves and cooler weather.
Why do we have more dry and cracked skin in the fall and winter?
As temperatures drop during the fall season, cold air is able to hold less moisture and is therefore less humid than warm air, on average. When you go into your home, office, or a store, the air is warmed by a heater which draws from the outside/inside air of the place you’re in, lowering the humidity even further. Since warm air can hold more moisture than cold air, it will try to pull moisture from wherever it can – including your skin! This is why you feel drier in the fall and winter months, and a big reason why your skin can crack.
According to one study1, after 30 minutes in a relatively low humidity room (40% relative humidity, very common for your home in the fall and winter), the participants had their skin looked at for the water content of the stratum corneum (the outermost layer of the skin) and skin elasticity. In that short amount of time, they found a significant decrease in the moisture level in the stratum corneum and of skin elasticity, and observed an increase in fine wrinkles. These are telltale signs that you are at risk for dry skin and potentially cracked skin on your heels, feet, lips, and hands.
What if I have a skin condition like Eczema or Diabetes?
The nicer, but colder, fall weather outside and the time you spend inside at home or in the office can increase your flare-ups.
In a study2 that looked at participants with atopic eczema compared to participants without, it only took three hours for the skin of those with the atopic eczema to become rougher and dryer. Low humidity also seems to be a risk factor for irritant eczema.
According to the American Diabetes Association3, you should try and add humidity in your home to keep your skin hydrated and thus less likely to dry out and crack. Since diabetic skin is more prone to issues related to bacterial and fungal infections, avoiding cracked skin is very important, as cracks can become entry points for infections.
This fall, repair and restore your lipid barrier daily and fast!
Your natural skin barrier is a complex system that needs many different parts to work together. If one or more parts are depleted, or under too much stress, that is when you develop cracks, and it more extreme cases, severe cracks and infections in those cracks.
One of the most important part of your skin barrier is the lipid section found right under the outer most layer of your skin (stratum corneum). This lipid barrier is filled with ceramides, free fatty acids, triglycerides, squalene, and much more.
This lipid barrier’s role is to keep the moisture in your skin, stopping it from escaping, particularly in the fall and winter months. Remember, the warmer air in your home or office will do everything it can do suck the moisture from anything, including your skin.
When the lipid barrier is damaged, this can lead to irritation, redness, dryness, itchiness, cracks, or calluses.
SkinIntegra’s patented Rapid Crack Repair Cream is the best solution to help restore your skin barrier this fall and winter.
Our cream was designed with the lipid barrier in mind. We packed our cream with powerful plant oils that contains all 4 naturally occurring Omega fatty acids (Omega-3, Omega-6, Omega-7, Omega-9). These Omega fatty acids in our oils are the same as the ones found in the lipid barrier, and the skin absorbs them very fast as it recognizes them as essential to restore its barrier.
Beyond these Omega fatty acids, our cream also has powerful moisturizing agents like shea butter, sacha inchi seed oil, sea buckthorn seed oil, and 25% urea. All these ingredients are packed with vitamins Bs, C, and Es, on top of their moisturizing properties.
This patented combination of Omega fatty acids, moisturizing agents (NMFs), and vitamins are the key this season to replenish your outer layer of
Skin, and more importantly repair it when compromised. With our Rapid Crack Repair Cream, most of our customers (over 15,000) see moderate-to-severe cracks repair fully in just seven to 14 days (untreated cracks can take months or even years to repair).
Don’t suffer from cracked or dry skin this fall season, take a few days to repair and replenish your damaged skin, and say goodbye to dry, cracked skin on your heels, feet, or hands in days, NOT months!
